On 5 September 2007, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Emeritus Archbishop Doctor Desmond Tutu was appointment as patron of the National Braai Day initiative. About one year later, on 2 September 2008, Archbishop Tutu and Jan Braai announced the official name change from “National Braai Day” to “Braai4Heritage”. The Braai Arch also elaborated on prior statements as to why he supports this initiative.
