Review: Shedding some light on the subject of braai lights

Every braaier has a preferred way of checking whether the food is ready to be served. Some use cooking times as a guide; others prefer to test the texture of the food and most prefer to look at the colouring - the latter method sometimes proving a bit tricky as South Africans love to braai late into the night, and being the outdoorsy nation we are we don’t always have adequate lighting at hand.
In comes the Radiant Braai Light, which at first seemed like a bit of a ‘braai luxury’ - the obvious first question being “Why not go for one of those handy LED headlamps instead? It’s cheaper and you can use it anywhere”. Granted, but don’t you just hate having a blinding conversation with a braaier wearing a headlamp?
This light looks stylish, it’s durable, it’s practical and most importantly it provides a lot of light (4 times stronger than a normal headlamp). We found the clip mount very handy and fixed the light to a table next to the braai. The flexible metal arm allowed us to bend and tweak it to just the right angle, casting the light with precision onto the grid and then back to the table where the rest of the food was being prepared. The heavy duty magnetic base is also a great feature if you have a gas *cough* or loose standing metal braai at home - it needs a flat surface for best results though and won’t stick onto a round kettle braai. The long battery life and easy storage makes this a surprisingly handy addition for the camping enthusiasts.
